What is Psychodynamic Counselling?

Can it work for me?

Psychodynamic Counselling

Psychodynamic counselling is about linking our past experiences to our present behaviours, beliefs and experiences. As our awareness grows, we are able to better understand why we act and feel the way we do. This style of counselling encourages the client, with the help of the counsellor, to explore their inner world and their relationship to the outer world. Psychodynamic counselling looks to get to the root cause of a problem or issue. Rather than advise or instruct the client, psychodynamic counselling enables the client to develop their own insights into their behaviour, feelings and emotions, through a greater sense of self awareness. This awareness of our inner world can in turn lead to a way of living that is more functional and sustainable in the future.
